Nissan Takes Exclusive Scratch Shield Technology from Cars to the iPhone

Japanese automaker Nissan has been using Nissan Scratch Shield technology on their cars for four years now. They've been working on the self-mending coating for three years longer. The way Nissan Scratch Shield works is essentially by preventing scratches, repairing fine scratches, and offering better grip, which will be better realized on an iPhone than a car, for sure. We know; it sounds like a came straight out of a Science Fiction movie. But, it didn't. It was born from the genius engineers at Nissan with the help of the University of Tokyo and Advanced Sotmaterials, Inc. And, it's very, very real.

Used on Nissan and Infiniti models (i.e., the new Nissan Murano SUV and Nissan 370Z Roadster), Nissan Scratch Shield keeps cars looking newer, longer. The iPhone is the first non-auto item to adopt the miraculous finish and Piedmont Nissan anticipates it will be the next must-have for iPhone users. Especially those who like to keep their devices in pristine condition.

Speaking on the technology's industry transcendence, Bob Laishley, Overseas Program Director of Business Development, Nissan says, "We like to think laterally by taking the great innovations we've got from an automotive point of view, and looking at how they could be applied to improve everyday issues. The Scratch Shield iPhone case is a great example of us taking a Nissan automotive technology that has had a huge impact for our customers, and then shifting the boundaries to apply it to another everyday demand."1

When will the Nissan Scratch Shield iPhone case be available? Well, it just went into beta testing. Depending on the feedback, which we expect will consist of nothing but glowing reviews, it will go on sale as soon as this year.

If you own an iPhone or are planning to get an iPhone, be sure to stay tuned to find out the official verdict and ETA. Piedmont Nissan, located at 3510 Clemson Blvd. in Anderson, SC, is dedicated to keeping you informed.
