What was the original zero-emission vehicle? No, we're not talking about an electric vehicle, or even a car of the future. We're talking about something a little simpler than that - the two-wheeled mode of transportation that you sweated it out on during the summer and dropped into the grass when your mom called you in for dinner. That's right - it's a bicycle.
In tune with Nissan's mission to help build a more sustainable future, they've stepped up their involvement in cycling. This won't be their first year of involvement with RadioShack Nissan Trek, but they're so supportive of the team, they've become their co-title sponsor. 30 professional riders, who tour around the world regularly, will be supported by Nissan vehicles, and will wear jerseys proudly emblazoned with the Nissan logo.
Brian Carolin, Senior VP, Sales and Marketing, Nissan North America, says that it's a prime example of the company's commitment to sustainability and health. It also reflects trends in keeping fit and being environmentally conscious in the United States. Carolin says of the growing popularity of cycling events, "I would point out, just the number of spectators who are now turning out to these events. And, on top of that of course, it's also pretty clear that cycling, as a way of keeping fit in America is also gaining in popularity."1
The nine month cycling season began in Australia in January - and RadioShack Nissan Trek placed first in team classification. "Our vehicles...are embedded really in the sport itself. There are very few other sporting events where a vehicle is part of the action."2
Team members say that Nissan's involvement in the event is the best result of the sponsorship. One such rider, Matthew Busche, relates that it's clear that Nissan has the team's best interests in mind, and they're involved in every step of the process.
Keep your eyes out for RadioShack Nissan Trek throughout the racing season this year! They've already started racking up the wins, with their eyes on the prize during the Tour de France this summer.
